Eau Thermale Avène

for the perfect care of sensitive skin

Wassup! Back from my e-break and restarting my writing routine with my skincare practice. This new year I have the opportunity to try some really good French products!

I got to know about Eau Thermale Avène a few years ago when there was a rave about their Thermal Spring Water, but I didn’t pay much attention to it. I thought it is not a popular brand and was surprised when I was told that Eau Thermale Avène is one of the top dermocosmetic brands in Europe!

I attended a mini beauty workshop by the Eau Thermale Avène staff last month and learnt that it is a true pharmacy brand catered for patients suffering from sensitive skin (psoriasis, eczema and other skin conditions). The brand actually owns the internationally renowned Avène Dermatological Hydrotherapy Centre(something like a skin hospital) where patients are treated by specialist for their skin conditions.

After the workshop, I went back home all excited to start with their skincare regime and put the products to the test. I was given 21 days to use their products and to review them here for all of you readers! It left me really impressed with the results that I managed to achieve from just 3 weeks of religiously using the products. Although they’re sponsored, I will give my honest reviews, so kindly read on! :)

STEP 1 : CLEANSE  (Eau Thermale Avène Gentle Cleansing Foam 150ml RM95)
Two pumps from the bottle and cleanse away!

STEP 2 : SOOTHE (Eau Thermale Avène Thermal Spring Water 50ml RM25; 150ml RM49; 300ml RM69)
Spray a fine mist on your face. Wait for 2-3 minutes, then gently dab dry.

You know occasionally after cleansing your face, some temporary red itchy patches appear? I get those sometimes. I’m guessing that maybe it’s because my bare skin becomes sensitive right after all the dirt is removed and suddenly flares up when in contact with cold air/dust.

The Eau Thermale Avène Thermal Spring Water was able to soothe my skin when this happens(because it is low in mineral content) and form a gentle protective film. Now I use it all the time whenever my face needs some refreshing boost of moisture. I even use it to set my makeup as well!

STEP 3 : TONE (Eau Thermale Avène Gentle Toner 200ml RM89
Drip some solution onto a cotton pad and pat onto your face.

Alternatively, be like me and use your palms! But make sure that your hands are clean ;)

STEP 4 : MOISTURISE (Eau Thermale Avène Hydrance Optimale Light Hydrating Cream 40ml RM109)
Apply a good amount to the face and neck.

I don’t use moisturisers because a few brands that I tried gave me breakouts. I got frustrated and gave up on them so I usually just use a toner that has moisturising properties. I know it’s not a good idea to skip a moisturiser but I just couldn’t be bothered to find the right one. #lazypeoplebelike

I was skeptical to use this at first. Nevertheless, I gave it a go and I’M SO GLAD I DID. My skin feels more supple, softer and hydrated. Now I apply the Eau Thermale Avène Hydrance Optimale Light Hydrating Cream everyday after toning my face and it doesn’t give me any new breakouts.

It’s a fluid non-greasy lotion that has a lightweight formula(ensures a supple feel and a matt finish). The key properties of the Hydrance Optimale series is that it contains Lipomucine and Meiboserine - two important ingredients to ensure even distribution of water on the surface of the skin and the formation a protective veil to limit evaporation(hence moisture retained for a longer period).

STEP 5 : PROTECT (Eau Thermale Avène Day Protector Tinted SPF 30 PA+++ 40ml RM95)
Apply a good amount to the face and neck.

Everybody needs to use sunscreen even when indoors! UVA and UVB radiation to the skin causes faster dehydration, loss of radiance(dull skin) and brown spots to appear. Skin ageing becomes a lot faster too. Not forgetting to mention higher risk of skin cancer!

This product is subtly tinted to match most skin complexions. I love how it is able to correct my color flaws. It feels a little bit greasy though, but then again most sunscreens are made in this texture. It all depends on your personal preference. A bonus about this sunscreen is that it contains Eau Thermale Avène thermal spring water to keep your face hydrated all day!

My experience so far with this range is good in a sense that it is able to maintain my skin health and improve moisture without causing any problems like breakouts or blemishes. It's a very peaceful switch from my existing products. I’ll highly recommend it to people with sensitive skin as this brand is a gentle one.
